Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing to disrupt Manchester United’s summer transfer plans by pushing Real Madrid to sign Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
The Danish international has emerged as one of Europe’s most wanted midfielders after another impressive season in Portugal, attracting strong interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
However, Real Madrid are now believed to be entering the race following Mourinho’s expected return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to reports, Mourinho is a huge admirer of Hjulmand and sees the Sporting star as a perfect fit for his midfield rebuild in Madrid.
The Portuguese coach previously built successful teams around strong, disciplined midfielders and reportedly views Hjulmand as the ideal player to bring balance, aggression and leadership to the squad.
Hjulmand, who has been described as a “monster” in midfield because of his physical presence and defensive quality, currently has a £70million release clause in his contract.
However, reports in Portugal claim Sporting could allow him to leave for around £35million this summer.
Manchester United are actively searching for midfield reinforcements ahead of next season, especially with Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford.
